Is your telephone line noisy? |
It is important to have a phone line that is not noisy since computers are more sensitive to background noises. It can pickup sound that is not obvious to the human ear. A noisy line makes voice detection less accurate and might cause long delays at the beginning, or failed to leave a message on an answering machine or voice mail. There could be many reasons a line gets noisy. Noise caused by a poor quality voice modem If you use Voicent modem, you should not have this problem
If you are calling a cell phone and the cell phone happens to be in a poor reception area, you will have a noisy line. Cell phone service might drop calls or even missing the call altogether. Same thing could happen if the phone is answered in a noisy condition, for example, a TV is on or someone else is talking laud. There is nothing the system can do if the receiving
environment is noisy. |
| Test your system by using a regular phone | |
Connect a regular telephone to the modem PHONE jack. Use the phone to call the same number the modem just called. If the line is noisy, check the above item for solutions. |
| Test your system by turning on Record Initial Dialing. | |
To hear exactly what the modem "hears" on the phone line, turn on the Record Initial Dialing feature of Voicent Gateway. In this mode, the gateway will record the audio starting from the time the phone is connected till the time it begins to play your message. The wave files are usually saved under "C:\Program Files\Voicent\Gateway". The audio file names are prefixed with pickup_ and ends with .wav. You can listen to the audio recording file by clicking on the file name. If you do not hear obvious noise in the recording, please send your wave file to support@voicent.com. To turn on Recording Initial Dialing, please click on the Voicent Gateway icon (where is it?) to invoke the gateway main window, then select Help > Record Initial Dialing from the main menu.
