A voice modem is device capable of playing and recording audio over a telephone line. Modems are originally made for data or fax communications. These modems cannot be used with Voicent software. A voice modem is usually make as Data/Fax/Voice modem.
Please note that supporting V.90 or V.92 data transmission standards does not imply your modem is voice capable. A good indication of voice capability is the inclusion of voice mail software in the modem package.
We only support Voicent 3025 Data/Fax/Voice PCI modem.
How do I check what kind of modem my computer has?
Click the Windows Start button, select Control Panel. Select Phone and Modem Options, then select Modems.
Also check the Multimedia options under Control Panel and pull down the "Audio - Sound Playback" list. If you do not see your modem listed there, your modem or its driver do not have voice capability.
Why does my voice modem not work?
In order for a voice modem to work properly for telephony applications, the modem needs to have
This normally requires onboard DSP
on the modem card. Modems that rely on the computer sound card, especially the
so called "soft modems", will not work reliably for voice applications.
Even though the modem hardware supports voice, it is still not voice capable without a proper driver. (A driver is a piece of software that controls the hardware device)
Though there are voice modems known to work with Voicent Software, we have
not tested these modems with our system. You are at your own risk and there will
be no support for these modems. We strongly recommend using a Voicent 3025
modem.
