Trade Shows
A trade show is an exhibition organized so that companies in a
specific industry can showcase and demonstrate their new products and
services. Some trade fairs are open to the public, while others can
only be attended by company representatives (members of the trade) and
members of the press. There are currently over 2500 trade shows held
every year in USA alone. Trade fairs often involve a
considerable marketing
investment by participating companies. Costs include space rental,
display design and construction, telecommunications and networking,
travel, accommodations, promotional literature, and "give away" items.
Consequently, cities often promote trade shows as a means of economic
development. The Consumer Electronics Show (CES)
is held each January in Las Vegas, Nevada, and is sponsored by the
Consumer Electronics Association. At the show, many previews of
products are introduced, or new products are announced. CES is now
considered one of the major technology-related trade shows, with the
cancellation of Comdex.
